One of the newest dj's in the Dirty South making noize with that crunk
sound is the sensation named DJ Montay. A member of the Big Oomp Camp
since 1995 - before he graduated from high school - DJ Montay, 25,
continues to create a buzz on radio, mixtapes, and now mix-dvds. He is
the show dj for Big Oomp Records artists and puts his grind down on a
weekly basis at southern hip-hop spots like East Atlanta's Club
Chocolate. Montays' first break came back in 1997 when he started doing
megamixes for Atlanta's Hot 97, now known as Hot 107.9.
Considered one
of the hip-hop's most popular urban radio stations, Montay has expanded
to weekly mix shows in addition to a syndicated mixshow heard on over 6
radio stations. An entrepreneur at heart, DJ Montay parlays his DJing
into business retail as part owner of Big Oomp Records and So Much
More, the largest independent music store in Atlanta. In the year of
2005, this 15 year veteran has won 5 awards from the Southern Ent.
Awards. "I started making beats back in 7th grade, and listening to DJ
Jelly mixtapes inspired me" Montay says. "I used to bother Jelly all
the time; calling him [and] going to the flea market [where he worked].
I did my first party with DJ Jelly in the 9th grade" Montay remembers.
Since then, Montay has worked on over 300 mixtapes, toured with Sammy
Sam on a 10-city tour, produced for Big Oomp Records and other artist
such as Lil Flip's "We Ain't Playin", PSC's "Westside," Eightball's
"Stripes,"Pastor Troy's "Represent," and "Nice Change," Baby D's "It's
Going Down," Crime Mob's "Don't Put Your Hands Up," Trillville's "Give
Me, Me," YoungBloodz' "Watchu Lookin At," Lil Jon & The Eastside
Boys' "Take'em Out,"Gangsta Boo's "Weed and Cocaine," Devyne Stephens'
"Look Back At It (rmx)," Young Jeezy's "Play Da Games," D.S.G.B.'s "Sam
Diss," Dem Franchize Boyz' "Suckas Come and Try Me," and Sammy Sam's
"Ridin Wit Some Playas."
Montay has also worked with the Ying Yang
Twins, Bun B, T.I., Rasheeda, Too Short, Ludacris, 112, Khia, Bone
Crusher, TQ, and Juvenile. A member of the Southern Style DJ's, DJ
Montay is famous for mixing all types of music with that down south
flava. He explains his style as "music to get 'em crunk." He continues,
"Djing is becoming real big...you have to have a certain flava to make
it." And Montay has the versatility, style, and talent to continue his
rise as one of the biggest DJ's not only out of the South, but one of
the most acclaimed DJs/producers hip-hop has ever produced. Between
mixtapes, radio, live shows, and production work, DJ Montay see big
thangs on the horizon.
With the Oomp Camp behind him, the rap music
underground, along with the national media will be soon hearing the
